Our after-school program provides a safe, structured environment for school-age children after the school day ends. Designed for families navigating housing or family instability, the program offers supervision, enrichment, and emotional support in a calm, consistent setting.
The transition from school to after-school can be a vulnerable moment for children experiencing instability. Our program begins with a decompression period — a calm, low-demand arrival routine that gives children space to settle before moving into structured activities.
After a full school day, many children — especially those carrying trauma — arrive overstimulated and emotionally depleted. Our after-school spaces are intentionally calm: soft lighting, reduced noise, and flexible zones for movement or quiet.
School-age children who have experienced trauma often arrive at after-school programs in a state of dysregulation — even if they appeared fine at school. Our staff are trained to recognize the signs of stress and respond with co-regulation strategies before escalation occurs.
This includes check-in conversations, movement breaks, breathing exercises, and access to calm-down tools — all delivered with warmth and without shame.
Our after-school staff complete specialized training in trauma-informed practice, crisis de-escalation, and McKinney-Vento protections for children experiencing housing instability.
School-age children are old enough to notice when their caregiver is struggling — and they often internalize that stress as their own fault. When caregivers receive support, coaching, and community connection, children experience a measurable reduction in anxiety and behavioral challenges.
Our after-school program is one part of a whole-family approach. We connect caregivers to our support programs so the stability children experience here is reinforced at home.
Stable caregivers reduce children's anxiety and acting out
Caregiver coaching improves homework and bedtime routines
Community support reduces family isolation and crisis risk
